The Unveiling of a Masterpiece - J. Chester Armstrong
Carved on commission for a church in Boise, Idaho J. Chester 'Skip' Armstrong unveiled the final panel carving of a true masterpiece of art Saturday, November 9, 2008 in Sisters, OR, the Beliz cathedral door project. Sixteen (16) foot tall doors that are carved from a solid block of Beliz Mahogany that weighed an incredible 8,000 pounds when first being sliced into with his chainsaw to begin the creation of his stunning vision of the Archangel Michael slaying the dragons of the world. The final rear panel comprises an infintaneous circle of life inhabiting the traditional Ark, now with a cornucopia of Northwest wildlife gracing the guest list.
A couple hundred good friends joined in celebrating the pinnacle achievement. Fire dancers, electric blues and didgeradoos. It really was quite the 'doo. And thanks Skip, for being you!
